Yesterday, the President John Dramani Mahama delivered the State of the Union address. The address came amidst economic challenges but at the end of his speech, he assured all Ghanaians that there was light at the end of the tunnel.
The future is bright according to the President, provided we put away our political differences that have always derailed our progress. We need as a people to recognize that the country is for all of us and that if we don�t put our shoulders to the wheel and put away the petty party politicking, we will still be where we are, since we ushered in the 1992 dispensation.
The President touched on virtually all the aspect of the economy; he outlined Government�s policy direction with respect to all sectors of the economy.
The devil as it is said is in the details. If all that the President has mentioned can be achieved, then this country can leap frog from the Lower Middle
Income to Higher Middle Income status in no time.
From the railways sector, to education, to road network, to airport etc, all sound good on paper and achievable. It is our hope that Government will find the needed resources to be able to see to the realization of these laudable projects.
The promise of introducing free Senior High school (SHS) for the 2015/2016 academic year is commendable and will come as a relief to parents. The policy as stated by the President will start with day students. It is the expectation of Ghanaians that by the end of the four years term of the President, the
policy will be extended to cover all students in SHS.
We wish the President and his team of Ministers well. May the good Lord who hears the heart of men, guide their steps to ensure that they fulfill all the promises they made to Ghanaians.
