A number of individuals have pledged cash rewards totalling GH₵10,500 (Ten Thousand Five Hundred Cedis) for anyone who provides credible information that will lead to the discovery of the baby boy who went missing from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi moments after he was born.
On Thursday morning Accra based Radio Gold 90.5 FM launched a campaign to find the baby whether dead or alive, and called for public support to get to the bottom of the mystery.
No sooner had the call for support been made by host of the Gold Power Drive, Alhassan Suhuyini, than pledges started pouring in, with Mr. Kweku Botwe, former Managing Director (MD) of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) leading the way with a personal pledge of GH₵2,000.
With several others contributing but preferring anonymity, the pledges soon shot up to GH₵10,500 by close of the programme at 10am, with a lawyer who contributed GH₵1,000 also promising free legal service.
On Wednesday, February 5, 2014, the hospital delivered one Suwaiba of a baby boy at its labour ward but later told her the baby had died. However all efforts to be handed the body for burial have since left the entire nation confused as hospital authorities have failed to account for the baby or body.
Alhassan Suhuyini later told Graphic Online the case needs to be brought to a closure to help assuage the pains of the baby�s parents, particularly the mother, said to have carried the pregnancy for 11 months.
Suhuyini expects many more to support the quest for justice and expressed hope the search would come to a fruitful end.
Meanwhile the police say they have arrested seven persons in connection with the missing baby and have charged them with stealing and conspiracy to steal.
