President John Dramani Mahama says his promise to deliver quality leadership is not a political gimmick. He said he would fulfil the promises to prove his critics wrong. The President said this at a mini durbar held in his honour at Cape Coast as part of his two-day working visit to the Central Region. The President inspected work on the Kotokuraba Market and the Cape Coast Stadium. Currently, the Chinese contractors working on the market are constructing temporary site for the traders to move to, to pave way for actual work to begin. Work on the Cape Coast Stadium was also progressing steadily. The market The market project, being financed with a facility from the Chinese government was the baby of the late President Mills. After the death of the former President, Mr Mahama visited Cape Coast and assured the chiefs and people of his commitment to see to it that the project came to fruition. He eventually cut the sod for work to take off. No empty promise Addressing the gathering, President Mahama said he would not make empty promises to the people. He said when he promised to oversee the construction of the market, some people took it as a political gimmick. "Some even said the Chinese contractor I brought as evidence of my desire to bring the project to fruition was a galamsey operator," he said. "Today, the work going on gives testimony that I meant business," he added. President Mahama said when completed, the market would be the biggest in the county. Remembering Mills Mr Mahama said he still remembered the sentimental attachment the late Mills had to the development of Cape Coast. He, therefore, assured the chiefs and people that he would continue with the spirit, saying: "Cape Coast is my home." Omanhene At the Kotokuraba market, Osabarima Kwesi Atta III, the Omanhene of Oguaa, said Ghana under President Mahama had a better future. He said the signs were clear that the President was on course to fulfilling his promises. He, therefore, urged him to remain focused rather than allowing himself to be distracted by critics. Regional Minister At the Cape Coast stadium project site, the Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Sarpong, said many development projects were ongoing in the region, while many others would soon come on board.
