Kwesi Pratt Slates Doctors; Accuses Them Of Negligence

Medical doctors in Ghana have for a while, been in the media for the wrong reasons. Their woes started when a mother gave birth to a stillborn baby at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH); and the body could not be found. There have also been alleged cases of negligence on the part of some doctors leading to deaths which could have been prevented. Contributing to a panel discussion on Kokrokoo the Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt, bemoaned the lack of professionalism on the part of some doctors in the country. According to him, he has had several complaints about patients who went to hospitals and encountered one problem or the other. He said either patients are given wrong prescriptions, administered wrong medication or doctors leave objects in their stomach or womb. I dont understand why and how doctors conduct surgical operations on patients and leave some of the tools in their stomach. These cases are becoming too rampant. Its either they give an over-dose of medicine or leave something in the stomach or womb of patientsThese doctors always talk about their salaries; but come to think of it, how can their pay be increased when their work is not up to expectationwhat is happening to our medical practitioners in this country? It is time for them to do something to save lives, he demanded.
