Mr Anthony E Aggrey, District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wassa East, has entreated Ghanaians to exhibit patriotism and unity of purpose, so as to propel the development efforts of the country. He said in times past, Ghanaians showed enthusiasm towards communal labour, and paid taxes regularly towards developmental projects, however, in recent time, the zeal and nationalism among Ghanaians had dwindled considerably. He, therefore, charged the entire citizenry to change their attitudes and rally behind the government to initiate and execute policies and programmes that would move the country forward. Mr. Aggrey made these remarks at the 57th District Independence Day Celebration at the district capital, Daboase in the Western Region. The event was held on the theme, �Building a Better and a Prosperous Ghana through Patriotism and National Unity�. He warned those engaged in illegal small-scale mining and timber logging, to refrain from the act before the law catches up with them. The DCE advised the citizenry to put all hands on deck to develop the nation, and eschew divisive tendencies and parochial interests that drag the nation backwards. �As patriotic citizens we should promote peace and justice, and protect the environment, so that the prosperity we long for our nation, will come to pass,� he stressed. Some of the participating schools in the march pass included Daboase Senior High Technical School, Saint Martin�s Anglican Junior High School, Kakokrom D/A Primary, S.I. P.L Junior High School and Sekyere-Boaboso JHS. The schools that exhibited outstanding performances during the march pass, were rewarded with cash prizes and certificates. The Assembly also presented cash prizes and certificates to candidates who excelled in last year�s Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE). The event brought together chiefs, heads of department, students, pupils, assembly members and masqueraders.
