Ghanaians Urged To Eschew Self-First Syndrome

Mr Isaac Kweku Sam, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Komenda- Edina- Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA), has urged Ghanaians to eschew the self-first syndrome, as it was the root cause of the countrys woes. He said the country does not belong to only politicians or some special interest groups, but that every citizen of the land has a role to play in solving its problems, and charting a brighter future. Mr. Sam, who was addressing the 57th Independence Anniversary Celebration parade at Elmina under the theme Building a better and prosperous Ghana through patriotism and national unity, said if the interest of the country was put first, it would mark the beginning of rapid development in the coming years. The parade contingent consisted of 27 Primary, Junior High and Senior High Schools in KEEA, under the command of Ms. Antoinette Quarshie. The MCE pointed out that the country could achieve more by working together in unity, adding , the Ghanaian spirit has defined its past and kept the country united in spite of its varied background and would surely lead it into the future in a purposeful manner. He said the task of making Ghana a prosperous country was an arduous one, but if everyone contributed their quota in the various fields of endeavor, admirable results would be achieved. Mr Sam said the patronage of foreign products was a disadvantage to local manufacturers, and appealed for the consumption of locally manufactured products as a sign of patriotism, adding that governments plan to set up a trade commission would be a good protection for the local manufacturers. Mr. Sam urged Ghanaians to rekindle the spirit of communal labour in their respective communities, and initiate clean-up exercises and other activities that would promote the socio economic advancement of the country. He advised school children to eschew social vices such as drug abuse, homosexuality , pre-marital sex, and rather take their studies seriously. The MCE appealed to workers to avoid poor attitude to work, such as lateness and absenteeism, and maintain the tracks of discipline , hard work and commitment to work . Elmina Catholic Boys Primary School, Elmina Boys Catholic Junior High School and Edinaman Senior High School emerged winners in the Primary, J.H.S and SHS categories, during the parade.
