Golden Star Ladies Club Donates GHc15,000.00 On Women's Day

The Golden Star Ladies Club on Saturday presented an amount of Fifteen Thousand Ghana Cedis in cash and kind to two separate institutions as part of its activities marking this year�s International Women�s Day-IWD, which was celebrated On Saturday 8th March 2014. Breast Care International a Non Governmental Organization and Twin City Special School received Fourteen thousand Ghana cedis (GHc 14,000.00) and One Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 1,000.00) worth of items respectively. In a separate presentations the president of the Bogoso Ladies club Madam Doris Derry said there have been great leaps forward for women worldwide in education, the world of work, justice and political representation, but there is still more to be done. �As a club it gives us a chance and time to reflect our continuing struggle for equality, justice, peace and development� she added. She said, Golden Star Ladies Club recognizes the generosity of its sponsors and supporters particularly Golden Star Bogosso/Prestea and Wassa to all its programs that support women and have raised awareness on their achievements, plight and challenges. �We believe that girls and young women are agents of change, so we will be joining the millions of girls and women across the globe celebrating and taking action for IWD 2014. That's why the Golden Star Ladies Club are a charity of choice for the global hub for International Women's Day�. The Chief Executive Officer of Peace And Love Hospital and the President of Breast Care International (BCI) Dr. (Mrs.) Beatrice Wiafe Addai said, the donation came to them as a surprise and would showcase survivorship to reduce the fear associated with breast cancer, which has scared many people from seeking appropriate care. �The diagnosis of the disease MUST NOT be equal to death� she adds. �Corporate organizations are also encouraged to join in raising even more awareness by offering their time, products, services or by donating towards this very worthy cause. She mentioned the outreach programmes of the BCI, which are used to educate women in rural and urban centers about breast cancer and also clinically screen them for any breast related diseases. Dr. Wiafe Addai applauded Golden Star Ladies Club for their support and promise to organize a massive breast screening exercise at Bogoso in the near future. Earlier, the Golden Star Ladies club presented items made up of drinks, toiletries and sporting equipment worth One thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc1,000.00) to the Twin City Special School at Esipon in the Sekondi - Takoradi metropolis. Receiving the items on behalf of the headmistress Miss Elizabeth Ameworwor, the housemaster of the school Mr. Wisdom Dzokoto thanked Golden Star Ladies Club and called on other cooperate institutions to emulate what they have done. He said the school now has 120 students with three different category of disabilities confronting them. He mentioned payment of electricity bills as one of the major challenges the school faces now since their debt as in electricity at the end of February 2014, has accrued to Seven Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 7,000.00) In October the Golden Star Ladies� Clubs (Wassa/Bogoso) hosted programmes to raise awareness in the catchment communities of the issues associated with breast cancer. In view of the goring statistics on breast cancer in Ghana, and the reducing success rates of treatment as a result of late detection or diagnosis, the ladies of Golden Star Resources, Wassa, Bogosso and Prestea have made it their prime goal to champion the campaign on Breast Cancer prevention and management as well as promoting proper breast care. The combined activities of the two clubs and the generous support of the sponsors and participants was a resounding success. In total the two clubs raised over GH� 15,000 for women�s health charities and outreach programs. Out of this, an amount Fourteen Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH� 14,000) has been presented to Breast Care International and their local Peace and Love unit in commemoration of the 2014 International Women Day Celebration.
