Some travelers and drivers in Ho who use the Adomi Bridge at Atimpoku in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region are beginning to feel inconveniences posed by the closure of the Bridge for rehabilitation. The closure of the Bridge is creating heavy vehicular and human traffic at Senchi and Akrade, where commuters and goods are ferried across River Volta. Some travelers told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that having to wait for several hours in long queues to be ferried was a great bother. "We are told the ferries have a capacity of 300 tonnes each and can only carry four articulators and 12 vehicles at a time, so you can imagine the number of hours we have to wait for all these vehicles from Hohoe, Kpando and other parts of northern Volta Region," Kwame Setordji, an entrepreneur said. Esenam Bosso, a student, said he was not happy about the extra two cedis she has to pay to be ferried across the River, having paid GHC14.00 transport fare from Ho to Accra. In view of the inconveniences some vehicles have turned to an alternative route, Sogakope-Adidome and added GHC1.00 to the fare, making GHC15.00 for air-conditioned vehicles and GHC 14.00 other vehicles. Officials of the various transport unions told the GNA on Monday that they were holding meetings to review transport fares. A staff at the Metro Mass Transit in Ho said management was meeting to come out with new fares. The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) said the 56-year old bridge would be closed for 24 months for a major rehabilitation work said to cost 12.9 million Euros secured by the Ghanaian government from the Bank of Austria.
