An excellence award has been instituted in honour of former student of the Christian Methodist Senior High School (Chrimesco), Anas Aremyaw Anas. The award would be going to the overall best student of the school in each year group, this was disclosed at a ceremony held in Accra to mark the school�s 53rd Anniversary and its 12th Speech and Prize Giving Day. Recipients of �The Anas Aremyaw Anas Prize for Excellence� will be given full scholarship till they complete the school. Anas has offered to sponsor the award to encourage his students in his alma mater to do their best in their academic persuit. Addressing the gathering at the ceremony grounds under the theme �Christian Methodist Senior High School; Charting a new course at Aplaku�, the Headmaster of the school Mr. Alfred Mallas Tackie indicated that the school has over the years offered quality education to a large number of Ghanaians now working in respectable positions and are contributing their quota on both the public and private fronts to help develop the nation. He noted that as the school celebrates it 53rd anniversary, it�s important that they took stock of their achievements and shortfalls and also figure out how best they can develop the school going into the future. Anas who was present at the event spoke briefly and thanked the students for supporting his work over the years �it does not matter where you come from, if you do your best, God would be with you, and would see you through� he told the hundreds of students gathered at the event. Giving a brief background history of the school, the headmaster Mr. Tackie recounted that, the school was established by Christian Methodist Episcopal Church from United States of America (USA) in September 1960 with an initial population of 18 students. He said, the school can proudly boast of 1,750 students today comprising of 887 boys and 863 girls with 77 permanent teaching staff and 23 permanent teaching staff. Touching on the schools current academic performances vis-�-vis the various programs the school offers, the Headmaster said, the institution is serious and keen to always encourage the students to work hard to achieve academic laurels especially in the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate (WASSCE). He mentioned that the school�s management is on course to improve discipline in the school but noted that because the buildings are scattered it makes difficult and poses an uphill task to deal completely with the situation. In that light, Mr. Tackie was quick to add that work so far on the 18 unit classroom block and the proposed science, home economics and ICT complex has been very slow almost to the point of stand still and appealed to the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, AESL and Getfund to come to their aid for the completion of the project. The Headmaster made special mention of some students who had excelled in the field of sport even though the school can�t boast of its own playing field and limited sports facilities. He mentioned the athletes as; Master Richard Larweh; first in 5000, 1500 and 800 metres, Masters Moses, Okoe Raymond, Godfred Afful, James Antwi and DanielQuartey took overall first position in the 4x100 metres. Grace Hammond took third in 3000m and Miss Josephine Akapong was 3rd in th 1500m.
