GNUPS Cuts Sod For "Poly Fashion Concept"

The Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students (GNUPS) has cut sod for the commencement of operations of a liability corporation. The sod-cutting, which occurred over the weekend at Abuakwa in the Ashanti Region, is intended to bridge the gap between the unemployed and employed in the society. The project, which is worth over GHC 50000, will see the enrolment of about 250 students into the polytechnic sector this year in order to enhance polytechnic education in the country. Addressing the Central Committee Members of the Union, Mr. Amponsah Manu, Coordinator for the corporation explained the objective of the project, saying the construction of the liability corporation dubbed "Poly Fashion Concept Ltd" would help in "providing employment for its members and that it is the unions contribution to solving graduate unemployment that has bewitched the Polytechnic Graduate." The company aims at exploiting talents and also to lead a crusade to minimize the over-reliance on government to create employment for Ghanaians. "We as technocrats must lead and ensure that the crusade against the perception among graduates that provision of jobs remains governments sole responsibility is minimized, Mr. Amponsah said. He further called on the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the entire polytechnic fraternity to assist the company to deal with the current employment challenges.
