Though the government, through the Ministry of Energy has publicly apologized for the sorry state of Ghana's power supply which has resulted in a load shedding exercise, President John Dramani Mahama has not been spared the public criticism. Some section of the public wants the president to render an apology to them for reneging on his word. But a member of the government communication team, Alhaji Naziru Mohammed says President Mahama owes Ghanaians no apology since the current energy crisis in the country was created some years ago. The President has already asked Ghanaians to keep calm over the current energy crisis since the situation is temporary assuring that the country "will have a more reliable power system after this phase". While President Mahama has revealed that the current load shedding is as a result of Takoradi Power Company plant facing some mechanical failures thereby leading to 145 megawatts of generation power being lost, some members of the opposition parties are of the view that the crisis has come about due to Ghana�s indebtedness to its West African neighbor, Nigeria; which is supplying the country gas to power the plants. Debunking the assertions by members of the opposition parties, the NDC communicator on Okay Fm averred that the Mahama-led administration has put measures in place to ensure gas supply from Atuabo in the Western Region by June this year to address the current shortfall in electricity supply. Naziru Mohammed was not pleased with the call on the President to apologize to Ghanaians for the repeated incidents of �Dumsor Dumsor� being experienced nationwide. �I don�t see why President Mahama should be forced to apologize to Ghanaians for the load shedding exercise going on in the country. He is working assiduously to make sure there is regular power supply in the country��with Atuabo gas project, there will be enough gas to generate more power for supply; there are more energy producing projects going on in the country and so if the President apologizes now, it will mean he has given up on his promise to end the energy crisis. He owes Ghanaians no apology,� he pontificated.
