A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sekyere South Constituency, has appealed to the members to back the decision by Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo to lead the party to electoral battle in 2016, describing him as its best bet.
Mr Opoku-Agyemang Prempeh said apart from the groundswell of support and his popularity on the Ghanaian political landscape, he comes across as clean, mature and experienced politician, who could be trusted to lift the country out of the present mess.
�He undoubtedly is the type of leader the nation needs to change course - transform the socio-economic situation of the people.�
Mr Opoku-Agyemang, who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), dismissed suggestions that Nana Akufo-Addo�s age was a huge disadvantage as ridiculous, pointing out that, political governance was a serious business, which must not be reduced to base arguments about �one�s age, ethnic or religious background, oozing charisma and sex.
It should be about, who has the competence, skills, courage, resourcefulness and the drive to make things happen, create jobs and wealth for our people.�
He scored high marks to Nana Akufo-Addo for his immeasurable contribution to the growth of the nation�s development and the promotion of the rule of law and said he had over the years demonstrated real love and dedication to his country.
His exemplary conduct in public service should provide an insight of the quality leadership Ghana stands to enjoy under his presidency.
Mr Opoku-Agyemang advised the party to avoid unhealthy internal competition, likely to come back to haunt it in the future.
They should be mindful of their public pronouncements and that those eager to lead the party must tell the people what they would be doing differently but not to insult or vilify perceived opponents.
