Chief appeals for Senior High School

Nana Wiafe Appiah, Krontihene of New Abetengnsu in the Eastern Region, has appealed to the government for the provision of a senior high school (SHS) in the town. He said the students, who completed junior high school in the area had to attend SHS at Nkawkaw and Anyinam, which were very far from New Abetengnsu as some parents could not afford the financial cost, making some of the children to dropout of school. As a result, Nana Wiafe said, the youth leave to the big cities to engage themselves in menial jobs such as selling of dog chains along the streets, among others. Nana Wiafe Appiah made the call at a durbar during the celebration of the Akwasidae festival of the chiefs and people of New Abetengnsu in the Kwahu West District near Kwahu Jejete. They used the occasion to plan for new projects like vocational/technical centre, construction of a clinic, provision of pipe-borne water and teachers� quarters, estimated at over billion Ghana cedis. The Chief said the projects would be carried out with self-help contributions from the citizens and supported with communal labour. Nana Wiafe Appiah called on the people of New Abetengnsu to come home and contribute towards the projects, while appealing to philanthropists and non-governmental organizations to assist them in their efforts.
