Few years ago, it was difficult for the then three public universities, namely University of Ghana, Legon, University of Cape-Coast and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to cater for the number of secondary school graduate being churned out due to lack of accommodation and spaces. Vacancies were so limited that a number of them had their dreams shuttered. However, with time, a number of privately established universities have come to the rescue of a number of people. One of such universities is the All Nations University College (ANUC) based in Koforidua, Eastern Region. Established twelve years ago, ANUC first opened her doors to the public with an initial student population of 37 and now has 2500 undergraduates. To date, the University has graduated 2369 students in the fields of Engineering, Business and Biblical studies. Our student population comprises of students from 22 different nationals across the world. The University has so far received 8 awards for academic excellence, commitment to quality and innovation. �Our 12 years in existence has provided fresh energy and an even greater determination to deliver our mission for community. We continue to strive towards the achievement of academic excellence and demonstrate that we remain as committed as ever to who we are and what we stand for and to the creation of the total personality student experience. Therefore, it is particularly heartening to note that currently the University has a student population of over 2500,� the Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr. Michael Ampong said. �We have the ability to help shape Ghana and Sub-Saharan Africa�s higher education agenda. There is no question that these are tough times for higher education, but we gladly accept the challenges and opportunities confronting us and understand that All Nations University must change, adapt and grow to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving society, to better serve our students, faculty, staff and wider community. I have every confidence that our team will ensure that the institution is excellently positioned for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead as the higher education sector is transformed.� Just like any institution of learning, ANUC is looking forward to partnering with global leaders in higher education and industry, local government, business, educational institutions and the community at large to foster and promote development and economic growth in Ghana and the Continent of Africa. Mission and Vision All Nations University College�s mission is to provide quality higher education that promotes development and to raise leaders with Christian values and ethics for good governance to serve the people while the vision is to provide higher education, pursued in a Christian environment of truth and integrity. Strategically, the vision focuses on the Total Personality Development that incorporates content on leadership, spiritual, character and discipline in the academic programme. The Total Personality Development perspective of ANUC academic programme is also aimed at fostering integration of faith and learning towards a balanced person with practical knowledge that is applicable to scientific and technological problems in society. �Pursuit of quality in teaching and research �Innovation and creative activities that contribute to the society�s needs and engaging the community around us All Nations University College offers 12 programmes and is the first private university in Ghana to offer Bachelor Degrees in Electronics and Communications Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Oil and Gas Engineering. It is currently the only University accredited to run an Oil & Gas Engineering programme in Ghana. �Additionally, we are the first university in Ghana to develop an Information Technology (IT) park which provides solutions for Africa�s high-tech needs in the areas of Computer Technology, Electronics, Communications and IT,� said Mr.Ampong. As a result of its academic linkages with many renowned institutions locally and internationally such as University of Western Ontario Ivey School of Business in Canada, SRM University in India and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi in Ghana, the University is rapidly becoming the choice of international students and faculty from Angola, Benin, Cameroon, Canada, Chad, the Republic of Congo (Congo Brazzaville), the Democratic Republic of Congo (Congo Kinshasa), Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, India, Leone, South Sudan and Togo. �We have a 100% full-time faculty (international and local) and our students go on to become leaders in their fields. A recent tracer student report revealed that 98 percent of our graduates have been absorbed into the private and public sector,� said the ANUC PRO. Awards and Accomplishments The only University in sub-Saharan Africa to have started working on a satellite ground station to be outdoored very soon. Last year the Intelligent Space Systems Laboratory of the university built and launched a deployable Cansat project with the objective to send a satellite into Orbit in one day. �The 2012 World Commitment Award � The Gold Category in Paris. The World Quality Commitment Award acknowledges ANU�s commitment to quality, leadership, technology and innovation. �The Most Prestigious University of the Year in Ghana, April 2013 � In recognition of All Nations University College high academic standard. �Pillars of Modern Ghana Awards-Tertiary Education Category, September 2013. Pillars of Modern Ghana are those who have made modern Ghana what it is today �Private University of the Year 2012/ 2013, Ghana, October 2013 in recognition of the design and successful launching of a miniature satellite (Deployable CanSat) in Ghana, by All Nations University College�s Intelligent Space Systems Laboratory (ISSL). The university was adjudged the best regional university at the Europe business assembly last year. What Does the Future Hold for All Nations University? Mr. Ampong said in �our continued efforts to foster and promote academic excellence and to further build our reputation as a Centre of Innovation and Excellence, we look forward to partnering with our stakeholders, industry and other institutions of higher learning, global leaders and governments.� Our combined efforts will make Africa a better place for all. There are four external factors that are most likely to impact the university over the coming years. According to him, the University recently signed a new MOU with SRM University in India to become a Learning Centre offering SRM degrees in Ghana and said the proposal has been approved by the National Accreditation Board. Other MOU in progress are with Queensland University in Haiti and Red River College in Manitoba, Canada All Nations University Research Centre. He disclosed that ANUC has established a Research Centre which served as a medium for sharing ideas and exploring collaborative research initiatives. �Our goal is to establish a world class research to address research questions of importance to individual researchers, students, the university, the country and surrounding regions, and potentially international arenas. It will serve as a focal point for promoting collaborative, interdisciplinary research through Seminars and Speaker Series. The Centre will also oversee the development and delivery of inter-disciplinary MA and Ph. D. programmes,� he concluded.
