The Public Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has warned that persistent malaria and typhoid conditions could be signs of the deadly Ebola virus.
The deadly disease is transmitted to people from wild animals and spreads through human-to-human contact.
Head of Disease Surveillance at the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Badu Sarkodie in an interview advised medical officers not to hesitate to refer such cases for further examination for the virus.
The Ebola disease has killed about six people in Guinea and is prevalent in Liberia, where health workers are battling to contain the virus.
Dr Sarkodie in an interview with Citi News said, �For now we have not recorded any case in the country; the system is actively watching and keeping close monitoring using our surveillance system��
He said health personnel at various entry points have been sensitised to be on the lookout for suspected cases and manage it appropriately.
�We don�t have the vaccine for the condition for now (but) there is specific anti-viral agent to treat it so it is very important that what we have started (public education), we sustain it (awareness),� he noted.
The Ebola disease is the human disease that may be caused by any of four of the five known Ebola viruses.
Affected persons may experience bleeding from nose, mouth, coughing up blood, internal bleeding or pass bloody stool.
Meanwhile, Parliament on Wednesday, called for an urgent national preparation to forestall possible outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus in the country.
