Former Chief of Staff, Kwadwo Mpiani says claims within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the party�s 2012 presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo was campaigning for certain individuals to win national executive positions could only be dangerous for party unity. He said while he does not believe that Nana Addo is capable of such a scheme allegedly being trumpeted in his name by some regional chairmen of the party, he would be extremely shocked if the contrary was established. First, he said, it has the potential to break apart the party that needs to unite its ranks in its quest for political power. Again it makes a mockery of Nana Addo�s own call for unity in the party and his desire to lead party to electoral victory. Mr. Mpiani who made the claims while speaking on Asempa FM�s Ekosii Sen on Friday, said he intends to ask Nana Addo to clear his name of such a wicked claim, but he also wants the media to do same for the education of the larger public. The NPP goes to the polls on April 14, 2014 to elect national executives and according to Mr. Mpiani, information getting to him has it that some regional chairmen are campaigning for the rejection of some office seekers because Nana Addo has allegedly told them he would not be comfortable working with those individuals. But Mpiani said the rumoured claim could only be divisive, for if heads or tails the party would be the loser. He explained that the chairmen were in office to work with all hands available to the party and should they persist in their campaign for the rejection of some contestants, they risk driving them away from the party. How do the chairmen work with these individuals should they be lucky enough to win the elections, or even if they lose, how do the party chairmen get them to support the cause of the party, he quizzed. Mr. Mpiani said the chairmen should play their roles as party officers working to ensure a fair ballot, it is not their place to determine who is voted for, and any unfair act on their part could cost the party even at the national level, because the peeved may refuse to vote at all in the national elections, or worse still vote against party candidates.
