Ghana Participates In Social Policies For Development Seminar

Nana Oye Lithur, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, has said the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) remained committed to the implementation of policies and investment in programmes that would enhance the productive capacity of the people. She said the government had initiated a social compact with the people of Ghana in a manner that harmonised social protection initiative to ensure that the poorest and most vulnerable in society are supported to move from destitution into active and productive lives. Nana Oye Lithur said these in a pre-departure interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to participate in the 9th edition of the International seminar on Social Policies for Development in Brasilia, Brazil. She said the social policies for development seminar would offer Ghana an opportunity to understudy other interventions to build upon and also share our experiences with other participants. Nana Oye Lithur noted that since January 2009 when the NDC re-assumed office, we have invested in people and created a solid foundation. The seminar would cover social policies in the areas of conditional cash transfer, social assistance, food and nutritional security with a focus on the practical implementation and managerial aspects of the policies. It will also offer Ghana an opportunity to share the country's Social Protection Framework with other participating countries a working document, she noted.
