Stop Politicing Education'

The Deputy National Secretary of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP,) Paa Kow Ackon, has called on Ghanaian politicians to stop politicising issues that has gotten to do with education in the country. He alleged that the President John Dramani Mahama has placed only his cronies and friends in the helm of affairs at the Ministry of Education (MoE), thereby toying with the educational policy of the country. The PPP deputy scribe made these observations in Accra on Tough Issues, one of the flagships programmes on First Digital TV. How can the government in power decide to change from the old system (middle school) which kept children in school until ten or more years to Junior Secondary School (JSS) and later Junior High School (JHS), increasing and decreasing subjects without relevant contents, thereby toying with the precious future of our brothers and sisters. he opined. He advised politicians to stop the habit of putting party members to man sensitive national positions such as education. Let us stop putting party members to head sensitive positions. They only think of how their government will win the next elections. As a result when they [party members] are taking major decisions, they dont do proper consultations rather do what will please their pay masters he added. The Deputy National Secretary of PPP further expressed his displeasure about the way some Party apparatchiks pretending to be experts and policy makers have rendered the education system useless and non-profitable. He urged stakeholders in education to fully take part in the deliberations of educational policies of the country to ensure that such policies positively reflect on the general outlook of the economy. Why should somebody also change the name from Senior Secondary School (SSS) to Senior High School (SHS) and three years to four years he fumed. Visibly angry Paa Kow Ackon charged the leaders of the country to develop a national policy on education having all stakeholders involved devoid of partisanship. To this end, he admonished Ghanaians to be mindful of politicians who come to them with sweet voices for their votes yet their agenda for the nation is different.
