The Deputy Central Regional Minister, Mrs Queenstar Pokuwaa Sawyer, has expressed satisfaction at the smooth take off of the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) at centres in the Region.
She said this after she had visited the Holy Child, Oguaa Secondary Technical, Mfantsipim, Adisadel College and Aggrey Memorial Zion schools all in the Cape Coast Metropolis on Wednesday
Mrs Sawyer said she was happy with the seriousness both the school authorities and candidates attached to the examination and that she was particularly impressed with the manner in which the students were focused and dedicated to the examination.
The Deputy Minister urged the students to reciprocate the investment their parents made in them by ensuring that they pass their WASSCE with good grades which will enable them to move to the next level.
�It is in your own interest to pass your WASSCE and also to show appreciation for the sacrifices your parents have made to put you in school,� she said.
Mrs Sawyer however expressed concern about the abysmal performance of schools in the region in last year�s WASSCE and said many of the schools with big names were not placed in the first 10 schools in the WASSCE results league, adding that most of the schools were now depending on their past glories
She said everything was being done to change the trend and was hopeful that this year�s WASSCE results would be better than that of 2013.
At the Holy Child School 370 candidates were present to take Integrated Science paper, with 204 candidates at the Oguaa Secondary Technical and 652 were present at Mfantsipim School.
Adisadel College has 551 candidates but two were absent during the paper, Aggrey Memorial Zion School presented 557 candidates with More Secondary technical presenting 29 candidates.
In all a total of 28,036 candidates are being presented for the WASSCE in the Central Region.
