I Thought Petrol Increase Was 'April Fool' Prank

Chairman of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), Ben Amoabeng Peprah has expressed shock at the recent increase in the prices of petroleum products. According to him, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) did not consult the Council before increasing the fuel prices. Mr. Amoabeng Peprah who was in shock when Ekosii Sen host, Kwadwo Asare Baffour Acheampong told him about the increase said: I also heard it but I thought it was April fool. The NPA on Tuesday April 1, announced a seven percent increase in prices of petroleum products with petrol and diesel selling at GH 2.73 per liter and GH 2.79 respectively. This is the third time NPA has revised the prices of petroleum products. The first was in January and the second in March this year. But the latest upward adjustment according to GRTCC, has prompted them to increase transport fares. Mr. Amoabeng Peprah said they will meet and provide drivers with the appropriate fares to avoid any scuffle that usually characterized fuel price increases and transport fare adjustments. In the interim, the GRTCC Chairman urged drivers not to charge unapproved fares until leadership in consultation with Ministry of Transports come out with the new fares.
