Workers of Newmont Gold Ghana Limited (NGGL) Ahafo Mine on Monday raised red flags and issued a notice to embark on industrial action. The workers comprising Professional and Managerial Staff Union of Ghana Mine Workers Union (PMSU of GMWU) and the Branch Union (BU), all of whom wore red arm bands, said they would soon embark on a sit down strike in protest against bad treatment by the company. Addressing the media at the Plant Site at Kenyasi in the Asutifi North District, Mr Frederick Addai Opoku, Chairman of the PMSU, explained that the two Unions represented both workers of NGGL Ahafo and Newmont Accra. He stated they had challenges and concerns with Management but after series of negotiations, they realized Management was toying with them hence their notice was a signal for Management to respond appropriately to those demands. Mr Opoku assured that the intended industrial action would be very peaceful and expressed optimism that they would hear positively from Management before April 10. Later Mr Victor Asare Gyapong, Secretary of the PMSU, read a statement read by the two unions and said Newmont employees had endured so much disrespect and intimidation from the Management for so long. The statement said they would soon reveal the details of their intentions, saying the general public would support their cause to fight for fair treatment of the noble Ghanaian worker. The statement said �if things don�t change we will strive to change things for our own good, that of our families and all Ghanaian workers�.
