School Shut Down Over Defecation

The Asuboa Methodist Junior High School (JHS) has been forced to shut down over persistent defecation in the classrooms by some unscrupulous people in the community. The shameful and inhuman act had gone on for some time now and protests by the school authorities had been ignored Ms Alice Oforiwaa, the Asankare Circuit Education Supervisor, said the District Education Directorate took the decision to save the children and their teachers from the undignified and hazardous job of cleaning faeces, every other day. It had been a difficult choice but there was no other option, she added She said those behind the act, were initially defecating on the floor of the classrooms but, later shifted to the teachers tables and then began smearing the blackboards with the human excreta. Ms Oforiwaa said the pupils and their teachers had been traumatised by the pungent smell in the classrooms and could no longer bear it. The assembly member, Mr Peter Ahenkora, conceded that the situation was bad and hugely embarrassing, and that, they had formed a neighbourhood watch committee to tackle those involved in the reprehensible conduct. Final year students in the school preparing for the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have been holding classes in the Methodist Church building since the closure on April 2.
