Member of Parliament (MP) for Asuogyaman in the Eastern region, Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, has been installed the Developmental Chief of Aflao Traditional Area in the Volta region. His enstoolment follows the conferment of the title Togbui Adzagba I, �Precious Son,� on him at a short ceremony at the Afalo chief�s palace, a fortnight ago when the legislator attended his late uncle and former District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Herman Seshie�s funeral in the town. Popularly known as �Son of the Soil� in Aflao, his installation was witnessed by chiefs and people of the traditional area, politicians and well-wishers from all walks of life. Paramount Chief of Aflao Traditional Area, Togbui Amenya Adjongaga Fiti IV, who described the legislator as a �pearl of the east� due to his numerous contributions to development of the border town, especially during his time as deputy trade minister under the erstwhile Kufuor administration, urged him to live above reproach and attract to the area the best of investments. �I urge you to use the honour bestowed on you to attract greater honours to Aflao which would transcend into the whole of Eweland and Ghana in general�,� Togbui Fiti IV said in a speech welcoming him. The new chief was reminded of the need to eschew political considerations in the search for development for the traditional area which cuts across Ghana, Togo and Benin, adding he was installed as a chief on merit and not based on political considerations. As a direct cousin of the late BBC ace, Komla Dumor, who incidentally hailed from the traditional area, Togbui Adjarba I was also encouraged to emulate the best of examples set by the late broadcaster as his name, Adjagba, means �precious son.� Recounting the accomplishments of the Asuogyaman MP in the area, Togbui Fiti IV said the legislator and his late uncle played significant roles in bringing developmental projects to the area, noting the construction of certain roads in the Aflao township can be attributed to their help. Togbui Fiti IV, acting on the accreditation of Hon. Ameyaw, as someone who has helped to bring down the levels of unemployment in Asuogyaman, where his father hails, urged the new chief to attract into the area investment opportunities that would transform into employment for the teeming unemployed Aflao youth. �I have no doubt that you would replicate what you have done at your father�s side, at your mother�s side and also be a bridge between Ewes and Akwamus who we all know the history that exists between these two tribes�,� Togbui Fiti said. To this end, Togbui Adjagba I promised to fund a resource centre in the Aflao township with a seed money of GH�20,000 and a thousand bags of cement to see to the training of the youth in various forms of skills. A sod was later cut for the commencement of the multi-purpose income-generating resource centre which would contain a bank, clinic, shops and a conference room for all kinds of social activities. The centre, he said, would be built with local labour from the town, adding indigenes from the traditional area who are architects would be made to compete for an appropriate design of the resource centre and the winner awarded a cash prize of GH�5,000. Humbled by the honour bestowed on him, Torgbui Adjagba I also pledged to provide a leadership that would prosper the Ewe nation and Aflao in particular. Togbui Adjagba I further swore to respond promptly to calls on him by the traditional council and also render to the area the best of development. He also promised to jealously guard and protect admonitions of the ancestors of Eweland that their society ought to live above reproach and ensure the best levels of morality of the people, especially the youth. �I will also form a committee to oversee the enforcement of the valedictory message given the Eweland by Togbui Sri on his death bed which is to see criminals as nation wreckers, reprimand our children when they go wrong and bring them up in righteousness�,� he promised. Since the future of Eweland belongs to the younger generation, Togbui Adjagba I indicated his readiness to ensure appropriate use of the resources of the nation to benefit all, especially the younger generation. Earlier, Torgbui Adzagba I donated one hundred bags of cement and GH1,000 to the St. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church as part of his contribution towards an ongoing project of the church.
