The Danger Of Hypocrisy

The dictionary.com defines a hypocrite simply as a person whose actions belies his stated beliefs, virtues and practices. Today, we see hypocrisy on the rise in all areas of human life. For example, an occultist recently said on TV that the majority of the present day pastors sought occultist interventions to grow their churches. We also see hypocrisy in relationships, the most important human investment. There is the case of a woman of 26 years who was in a three-year relationship with a man of 30. This woman comes from a rich family and greatly supported the man and his family. The man and his family members showered praises on the woman and kept assuring her that their marriage would come on by the end of this year. Everything appeared to work very well until four weeks ago, when this woman felt some strange and strong urge to see her fianc. She went only to find the man having a traditional marriage with another woman. All the family members she had supported were present. It was there she got to know the man had lied to her about his age, tribe and work. She passed out. Why hypocrisy? Many people go into relationships for their personal needs. A man needs sex and a woman needs personal support. They go in to take instead of giving and would do anything including hypocrisy and lies to get what they want. Some partners have low self-esteem. They tell their lovers who and what they are not just to make their lovers see them better than they truly are. Recently, a woman was shocked to find that her lover she had known as a big business man was actually a notorious armed robber. Some keep secrets about themselves or may not tell the whole truth about themselves because they see this as ways to nurture their identity. They may, therefore, hide areas of their lives that may threaten the health of their relationships. The danger Hypocrisy is a killer of relationships. It erodes trust as you try to lie, cheat or manipulate your lover. With hypocrisy, your best efforts to solve issues or build a future fail because you do not get the true facts and, therefore, answers to your problems. You simply cannot build your relationship if your lover does not have a full picture about you. You simply live on fiction but not on reality. It is hard for anyone to commit to you if you are a hypocrite. You lie to cover up lies. The more you lie to your lover, the lesser your trust in him or her because you project your deceptive tendencies on him or her. You keep lying till you are trapped in a web that blows up in your face when you least expect it. Are you a hypocrite? If you are a hypocrite, you know it. Accept that it is wrong and make a commitment to stop it because it serves no good purpose. In the end, your real self will contradict your words. Avoid saying things just to impress your lover even when you know they are not true. It is only when you let your partner see and accept you just as you are that you can hope for a fulfilling relationship. In two or three days, Christians will mark Palm Sunday, the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. A large crowd spread their clothes on the road, while others carried branches of trees. They shouted hosanna, benedictus qui venit in nomine domine or hosanna, blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. However, these same people in a few days shouted crucify him, crucify when Jesus needed help most. Decide never to be like these people.
