He was a bright star on the entertainment scene but dancer and singer, Gemann�s bubble burst in a shooting incident which landed him in prison for 14 years.
Out of prison since 2009 and now an ordained priest known as Pastor G�Love Gemann, the man is on a crusade to help prisoners.
A chunk of the proceeds from his G14 album to be launched on Saturday, April 12 at the Osu Ebenezer Presbyterian Hall in Accra will go to that cause.
The album launch forms part of an event dubbed A Night With Gemann where the man will share testimony and experiences in his eventful life as a star entertainer, prisoner and preacher of the word of God.
According to Gemann who became an ordained priest in December last year in New York City in the United States, the G14 album contains 14 tracks which are symbolic of his 14 years in prison.
Saturday�s programme will also introduce Gemann to the Presbyterian folk at Osu since he would be collaborating with the Presbyterian Church of Ghana on prison outreaches.
�I turned a new leaf in prison largely due to the Prison Ministry of the Presbyterian Church,� Gemann says.
�I know other churches also have serious wings dealing with prison ministry but I�ll always remember the useful mentorship I received from some prominent Presby pastors.�
Before the unfortunate incident in which Gemann shot a taxi driver after they haggled over a fare, the then entertainer was a singer and magnificent dancer with impeccable Michael Jackson movements.
His Highlife in G Major song was also widely known and he was nursing plans of going into the film business when his dream crashed over the firearm issue. �I have recorded music but I don�t see myself as an entertainer any longer. The old things have passed and it is a new Gemann you see now.�
Being such a good dancer before, would he dance at Saturday�s event?
Gemann says the programme is about raising resources for prisoners and he would dance in praise of God if the people who turn up for the event demonstrate enough support for the cause.
�I won�t be there to entertain. The entertainer in me died for the preacher in me to resurrect. I want people to come and hear the word of God and be blessed.�
When Gemann came out of prison, he started The New Life Christian Love Fellowship in Accra. Right from then, he began mobilising resources to help those he left behind in prison.
�There is so much we take for granted when we have freedom. There are prisoners who don�t bath with soap for years because it is a luxury item in there.
�That�s why I have constantly been committed to making prison life a bit more tolerable for inmates,� he said.
