Severe Rainstorm In N/R Renders Over 300 Homeless

Over 300 homes in the West Mamprusi District in the Northern Region have been destroyed by a severe rainstorm which occurred over the weekend. The subsequent floods rendered an estimated 300 residents homeless. The worst hit communities include Yama, Zua and Mishio. According to Citi FM�s Northern regional correspondent, Mashood Kombat, eight school blocks and mosques have been affected by the storm. The disaster specifically left 18 pregnant women and about 319 children homeless who are currently at the mercy of the weather while others are seeking refuge with their relatives and friends in the area. The rainstorm comes in the wake of an earlier rainfall that has also rendered over 900 people homeless Mashood Kombat reported that officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have conducted some baseline service and information gathering on the affected persons as a means of supporting them. He also said the Member of Parliament for the area, Sagri Babandi has also visited the affected persons where he called for more assistance from philanthropists and NADMO officials.
