Pay Us Or Else....-TUC

Organized Labour will not accept government proposal of wage freeze, Mr. Elllis Ankomah, Western Regional Secretary of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), said on Wednesday. He was speaking at a meeting of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Council of Labour at West Fijai near Takoradi. Mr. Ankomah said organized labour cannot accept governments proposal, because of the current high cost of living. He said governments proposal of 2.5 per cent increase in minimum wage is unacceptable. Mr. Ankomah said organized labour would advise itself if it did not see any advancement in salary negotiation by the end of April. He said the economy must be structured and local industries encouraged, to increase productivity, in order to cut down on the countrys imports. Mr. Ankomah said this measure can create employment, and give a boost to local industries to grow and expand. He also urged Ghanaians to buy made-in-Ghana goods, so that the country's foreign exchange can be used to develop other areas of the economy. Mr. Ankomah said this years Regional May Day celebration will take place at the Jubilee Grounds under the theme: Ghanas Economy, A Concern For All.
