The Upper West Regional Police Command has opened a model clinic for the police and the public in Wa,the regional capital. The facility has a consulting room, a dispensary, an injection/dressing room, a recovery ward, a store, a records room and a place for observing children. It is being manned by a physician assistant, three nurses and a drug dispenser, all of them personnel of the Ghana Police Service. The Upper West Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwasi Mensah Duku, told the Daily Graphic that the health centre was the contribution of the police service to the health needs of the people of the region. He said the facility, modelled on the concept of the Police Hospital in Accra, would treat simple cases and administer first aid in emergency situations to ease the pressure on other health facilities in the region. Situated at the barracks of the regional police command in Wa, the clinic and its personnel come at a time when key figures, including the regional minister, Mr Bede Ziedeng, have lamented the lack of health personnel to man health posts in the region.
