Lawyer Abandons Rosemond Killer

CHARLES KWESI Acheampong, the young lawyer who agreed to take Abraham Kwame Oyoko Baahs first degree felony case pro bono, has abandoned the accused. Abraham, who is on provisional charge of murder, is facing trial at the TDC Magistrate Court for the killing of Rosemond Nyampong, a 32-year-old staff of Stanbic Bank who was killed at her residence in Baatsona off the Spintex Road in Accra. Abraham beamed with smiles when the lawyer decided to take the case at the Tema court pro bono, during his fourth appearance. However, on his fifth hearing, the accused wept as the young lawyer informed the court of his decision to quit on personnel grounds. The accused could be sentenced to death by hanging if found guilty and this had touched the lawyer to lead the 25-year-old self-styled auto electrician in the proceedings in connection with the alleged murder of Ms. Nyampong, pro bono. The court presided over by Eric Adjei permitted the counsel to lead the accused, but he failed to appear for the accused during the last trail, only to write to the court that he had quit. Abraham had since been remanded into prison custody until a later date, while the court was still waiting for advice from the Attorney Generals Department. On November 21, 2013, Rosemond Nyampong, who worked with the Credit Department at the Accra head office of Stanbic Bank, was found dead in her kitchen at her house in Baatsona, Accra. Police intelligence later discovered the deceaseds Toyota Yaris saloon car at a car washing bay in Odumasi Krobo in the Lower Manya Krobo District of the Eastern Region being driven by Abraham and he was immediately apprehended. Also other items such as a home theatre, plasma television set and cell phones belonging to the late Ms. Nyampong, were found in Abrahams room. He was interrogated and during his third appearance at the court he admitted killing the deceased single-handedly.
