A Nigerian Traditional ruler in Ghana, Eze Samuel Ekezie, was on Tuesday put before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly firing indiscriminately at a naming ceremony at Mallam Junction, Accra. Ekezie who was being held for threat of death and discharging firearms without authority has pleaded not guilty. The court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri admitted Ekezie to a bail of GH ₵20,000 cedis with four sureties to reappear on May 21. According to the court the four sureties are to be Ghanaians. Prosecuting Chief Superintendent of Police Duuti Tuareka said the complainant was Eze Geoffrey Makwugo a businessman resident at North Kaneshie while Ekezie resides at Dansoman. On March 23, Chief Agbawodokizu Aaron a businessman and a witness in the case organised a naming ceremony for his newly born baby girl at Patase Gardens at Mallam which Nigerians living in Ghana attended, including the accused person. While the ceremony was going on and the dignitaries were about to be introduced, the accused person collected the microphone from the master of Ceremony and ordered the complainant to leave the ceremony else he would kill him. Prosecution said accused person�s announcement put the invitees into fear. Chief Supt Tuareka said accused person rushed to his car and brought out a pump action gun and started firing indiscriminately. The complainant sensing danger fled the scene and reported the matter to the Police who arrested Ekezie and retrieved the gun from him.
