Mother Bathes Baby With Soup

The shrill cry of a two-year-old baby girl on Sunday evening attracted a crowd to a house at Ewukorpe Village near Adjei Kotoku. There, to their utmost surprise, they found Adzo Numawor, the baby�s mother, bathing her with steaming soup. The astonished crowd wrestled the baby from the mother only to realize that she had suffered severe burns on the buttocks and the private apart. Kodzo Nubueke, the girl�s father, angered by the harm caused by his wife to the child, gave her hefty slaps in the face before he was restrained by the crowd. An eye-witness, Frank Gamordzie, told The Spectator that Adzo�s husband killed a fowl that Sunday evening for soup. But as Adzo was drunk and could not prepare the soup, the husband started to do so. While cooking, he received a visitor who he later went to see off. Before, then, he drew Adzo�s attention to the soup on the fire and also asked her to bathe the child. Adzo, who was said to be heavily drunk, staggered to the kitchen, took the boiling soup, she considered to be water, poured it into a bucked and started to bathe the girl with it. The assemblyman for Akotoshie Electoral Area, Yevu Maclean, confirmed the story and expressed concern about the drinking habit of some people in the community. He advised them against excessive drinking saying alcohol besides, affecting their health, also impoverishes them. The assemblyman advised them to invest what they spent on drinking alcohol in their children�s education and welfare.
