The Ghana Technology University College (GTUC), has launched a fundraising campaign in Accra to support the expansion of the school.
Dr Osei K. Darkwa, President of GTUC said the fund would be used to construct a modernised seven-storey student housing, support needy but brilliant students, recruit star researchers, expand faculties as well as establishing endowment fund for the university.
�We also wish to modernise the school�s academic environment and replace outdated IT and telecommunications equipment in our labs and it is our desire to broaden the range of materials at our library, and expand our electronic and online collection to meet the demands of 21st century education,� he said.
Dr Darkwa said, the set target would help facilitate the university�s efforts in building a sub-regional centre of excellence in the areas of technology, research and innovation.
�We are therefore calling on our alumini, corporate organisations, friends, faculty, students and other well-wishers to give and give generously and together with the Council, we are all determined to make inspired efforts for the realisation of the goals that the university has set and continuous set,� he said.
In a speech read on his behalf, Professor Walter Alhassan, Council Chairman of GTUC said, the University which has its roots in Ghana Telecom�s flagship Training Centre has seen tremendous improvements since its establishment in 2006.
He said, with faculties such as Engineering, Informatics and IT Business, the school has developed cutting edge course such as Oil and Gas, Information and Technology and Engineering at the undergraduate, Master�s and Doctoral level.
He said, apart from winning many international awards including the Best University in Technology Education in West Africa by the Europe Business Assembly, the university has also developed academic partnership with a number of industrial giants and 18 universities around the world.
Prof Alhassan said, the University is a potential nerve centre for innovative solutions the Ghana�s problems, particularly those relating to information technology, engineering and business and urged those who are passionate about education to donate towards the fundraising campaign.
