KNUST To Get Pedestrian Foot Bridge

Government is to construct a pedestrian footbridge at the Tech lorry station in Kumasi. The Development and Traffic Engineer of the Ashanti Regional Urban Roads Department, Ing. Nana Poku Agyemang, announced this at a stakeholders� meeting. The project is expected to be completed in 12 months. The purpose of the meeting was to provide a better platform to solicit ideas and opinions from all stakeholders on how to initiate a successful project. According to him, the pedestrian footbridge (KNUST Footbridge) is to help ease congestion and halt people crossing over from Ayigya to the KNUST campus and its environs. He said hawkers and drivers would be relocated to make way for the project to start soon, and said an agreement has been reached with the affected persons. Nana Agyemang stated that the queen mother of Ayigya has promised to provide a better space within the area for all persons who would be relocated. Also, some food vendors would be moved to a place closer to the Tech Hospital for business purposes. Nana Agyemang assured that work would not affect the Tech to Kejetia highway so they should not worry about traffic jams. He noted that as soon as consultations are completed, contractors from Austria will begin work.
