The Nsuta Circuit Court, presided over by Mr David W. P. Amedior, has sentenced an Asante-Mampong-based drug dealer to 20 years imprisonment. Richard Oppong, 20, was arrested with a quantity of cannabis eight months ago. A juvenile standing trial with him was also convicted and is to appear before the Mampong District Court at a later date to be told of his punishment. They both denied the offence. Police Chief Inspector John Amponsah said the convicts were found with wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis by a police patrol team on October 2, last year, at about midday. On seeing the police approaching, they attempted to flee but were seized together with the substance. Laboratory test result of a sample of the substance confirmed it to be cannabis, and the court ordered its destruction.
