Houseboy Jailed 12 Years Over Defilement

The Kumasi Gender/Violence Court has sentenced a houseboy to 12 years imprisonment over the sexual abuse of a 14-year old daughter of his employer. Michael Okyere, 18, was convicted after he pleaded guilty to the crime. He had defiled the victim on April 23, at about 2200 hours, at Santasi-Apire in Kumasi. Police Chief Inspector Rose Essuman told the court presided over by Mrs Rita Agyeman-Budu that the convict lives together with the girl and her parents and he had slipped into the victims room to engage her in a conversation on the day of the incident. At a point she fell asleep and Okyere took advantage of the situation, to sexually assault her. The sharp pain rudely awoke her from her sleep and fearing the consequences of his criminal act he fled the house. The girl could not keep her traumatic experience to herself and broke the news to her auntie, who in turn informed the father. The prosecution said a formal report was made to Police Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) at Suntreso, leading to his arrest. A signed medical report by doctors confirmed that she had indeed been defied.
