Woyome Lied In Court Kwadwo Mpiani

A former Chief of Staff under the Kufuor administration, Kwadwo Mpiani has denied given orders for the payment if $ 500,000 into a Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) account for the financing of the CAN 2008 tournament in Ghana. This follows a revelation made by embattled businessman, Alfred Woyome in court on Monday that ahead of the CAN 2008 tournament, the then Chief of Staff, Mr. Mpiani ordered the payment of $500,000 into a GNPC account at Prudential bank to finance initial projects for the tournament. Responding to the claim on Eyewitness News on Monday, Mr. Mpiani denied saying, he is lyingI am not aware of any such thingdefinitely I have not done that and I am not aware of that. He indicated his readiness to appear in court to answer questions relating to the matter. According to him, Mr. Woyome is in court trying to prove his case but his account of the payment of the said amount is untrue. I am saying he is lying and I dont know whether he has perjured himself in court or not but what he said in court, I am saying its a lie as far as I am concerned. Former Attorney General (AG), Martin Amidu in 2012 dragged Mr. Woyome to court over GHC 51 million paid to him as judgement debt by the state. Mr. Amidu subsequently went to court to help the state to retrieve the GHC 51 million, which he contended was wrongfully paid to Woyome. The State prosecutors presented nine witnesses to testify against Mr. Woyome. The case is being heard at the Accra High Court presided over by His Lordship Justice John Ajet-Nassam. Since Mr. Woyome opened his defense in court, the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong has been in court to support the prosecution team.
