The Spokesperson for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the two times presidential candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mustapha Hamid, has challenged the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) to swallow its pride and adopt the economic outlines proposed by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former running mate of Nana Akufo Addo. Mustapha Hamid said there is no point in the ruling NDC to continue to deceive Ghanaians and the whole world about the state of the economy, by deliberately engaging in a fruitless venture such as the National Economic Forum, stressing, �the government should just fall on Dr. Bawumia�s policy document, and stop wasting our time on so-called economic forum.� The Spokesperson for Nana Akufo-Addo noted that President Mahama and his NDC administration should just admit failure, and refrain from playing hide and seek with Ghanaians, since the citizenry are discerning enough to know that things had fallen apart, and that the government had no clue as to how to solve our economic problems. Speaking to members of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) chapter of the Tertiary Education Confederacy of the NPP (TESCON), Mr. Hamid said he was irked to learn about the government�s decision to use the tax payer�s money to organise a forum on our economy, when already there are available economic blueprints that the government could implement for the benefit of us all. According to him, he is shocked that Ghanaians have kept quiet and are watching President Mahama and his functionaries mess things up, after trumpeting on his so-called youthful exuberance and northern background to assume the Presidency. �Did President Mahama and his apologists not comb the length and breadth of this country telling Ghanaians that he was young and a northerner, and that they should vote for him, because he was abreast with modern trends, what has happened?� he queried. Nana Akufo-Addo�s spokesperson observed that now that the reality checks were dawning on the NDC and President Mahama that leadership is not about being a northerner, being handsome, or young, they are now calling on Ghanaians to bring their inputs into how the economy, which they have collapsed beyond repair, can now be resurrected. �What is the value of a 55-year-old man who does not have a clue how this country should be governed; so now they say they are organising an Economic Forum for people to come and give them ideas, and we are all watching, like seriously, whaaat! So, now we see that we don�t need a youthful President; we don�t need a northern or handsome President, but rather a leader who will bring food on our tables; who will make sure I am able to pay my children�s school fees; who will ensure that students get jobs after school,� he contended. He further observed: �You came and told the people how you were going to solve the problems of this country; you told us you had Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, and you said he was such a brilliant economist and all that, in any case, what economic ideas do they want that Dr. Bawumia has not given them in all the lectures he has delivered; simply pick the ideas and implement them; you said you had Dr. Nii Moi Thompson and all those people who knew how to manage the economy, why do you now need people to come and tell you how to manage the economy?� Mr. Hamid noted that it is no longer news that the incompetent leadership of President Mahama and the NDC administration had left Ghanaians in absolute dejection and despair, stressing that businesses are crumbling under huge debts and the unprecedented fall of the local currency against the dollar. ADVICE TO TESCON Mustapha Hamid, therefore, urged members of TESCON to rekindle the spirit of volunteerism and selfless dedication that made the wing an indispensable part of the NPP in the late 90s and early 2000.He said the NPP cannot sit aloof and think that victory would come in 2016 without struggling for it, stressing that there is the need for members of TESCON to revive the spirit that prevailed in the 2000 if the party can win the upcoming elections. Mr. Hamid said despite the incompetence of the NDC administration, and the fact that they had disappointed Ghanaians, they would not hand over power to the NPP on a silver platter, and stressed the need for each and every individual member of the intellectual wing of the party tell people about how the NDC had failed. �There is no denying the fact that President Mahama is incompetent; there is no denying the fact that because of the poor performance of the country�s economy, businessmen and women have their businesses crumbling before their very eyes; there is an escalating deprecation of the cedi against the dollar,� he noted. Mr. Hamid said, as members of the TESCON, they should be able to explain these economic issues in simple terms to the ordinary Ghanaians, in order to defuse the propaganda by the NDC.
