FIPAG Will Not Organize Awards -Asare Hackman

Following the directive by the Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) for its members to dissociate themselves from the Ghana Movie Awards, there have been several speculations that suggest the association is preparing to organize its own movie awards. But FIPAG President Asare Hackman has stated categorically that the association has no plans whatsoever of organizing their own awards. It is not FIPAG as an association that wants to organize an award event because we are not event organizers. But we want a company that has the needed structures in place to organize the awards for us, he explained on Peace FMs Entertainment Review. According to him, since the association ordered its members to stay away from the Ghana Movie Awards, several organizations have expressed interest in organizing an award event for them. Since we made this known, we have gotten four companies who have brought their proposals to us. The leadership of FIPAG, however, is yet to sit and assess the companies before we choose which company to give the franchise to, he said. Mr Hackman further added that the earlier directive from FIPAG ordering its members to stay away from the Ghana Movie Awards was in response to the various calls from the members with regard to the event. We had a general meeting in Kumasi and that was not the first time the issue came up. Our members say they are not happy about the way the organizer of the Ghana Movie Awards was treating them. They themselves suggested that FIPAG should find someone who can organize an award event for us that will satisfy all parties. We issued a statement to that effect after that meeting. If our members are the ones who suggested that we should organize our own awards then they too have to comply with that. This is the reason we said none of our members should take their works to Ghana Movie Awards, he said.
