Bicycle Thief Convicted

A Tarkwa circuit court has fined a 33- year-old farmer, Justice Kofi Ayensu, 360 Ghana cedis for stealing a bicycle valued at 150 Ghana cedis. The accused pleaded guilty and would serve 30days imprisonment in default. Police Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on April 23 Kofi Kakari, a farmer at Aboso, left his bicycle at Abosom Danho junction and went to work on his farm but did not find it when he returned. She said three days later Mr Kakari went to a local information centre to make announcement of the theft and later received a call that that someone had been arrested with the bicycle. He was told the convict�s landlord said he saw him pushing the bicycle into his room on the day of the incident and when the room was searched the bicycle was found behind the curtain. He was sent to the chief�s palace who instructed he must be handed over to the police. The kconvict told the police he picked the bicycle thinking it was left behind by some thieves.
