Pastor Thrown Out

A SUNYANI high Court presided over by Justice Bosco Naberese, has rejected a motion filed by the head pastor of the Calvary Charismatic Centre (CCC), Pastor Ransford obeng, who was praying the court not to be joined to an action brought against the church. Passing his judgment on the application yesterday, the trial judge said the CCC spiritual head is a necessary part of the case, and therefore had to be joined to it to help unravel the truth. The court has therefore scheduled beginning of the hearing of the case brought against the Church by its former Sunyani branch administrator, Edward Sencherey for Monday, June 9, 2014. Mr. Sencherey dragged the CCC board of trustees (first defendant) and Pastor Obeng (second defendant) to the court for allegedly wrongfully dismissing him. He was said to have been dismissed verbally by the first defendant on January 12, 2014 when the defendants visited the church in Sunyani, the Brong-Ahafo regional capital. The former CCC administrator is claiming that he was sent out of the office and prevented from taking his personal belongings, including money and documents. Mr. Sencherey is therefore, seeking among other reliefs, general damages against the church for his wrongful dismissal and a declaration that the verbal dismissal is unjust, illegal and unmerited, having regard to all circumstances surrounding the church in recent days. He is also praying the court to award general damages against the CCC for the unlawful seizure of his personal bag containing his valuable documents and money. Meanwhile, Pastor Ransford Obeng had averred that the church is a corporate body registered under the laws of Ghana, and that he had been unnecessarily and improperly made a party to the suit. He maintained that as the founder of the church, he is separate and distinct from the CCC and therefore could not be joined to an action against it. The court however, dismissed his pleadings, articulated by his counsel and joined him to the case so as to help unravel the truth of the whole matter.
