Man Grabbed For Operating Security Company Without Licence

The Commercial Crime Unit (CCU) of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a 38- year-old administrator for operating a private security company without a licence. The suspect, Franklin Amedume, who established the Support Security Company Limited without following due process, was arrested in Accra following police investigations. According to the Director of CCU, Superintendent Felix Koku Mawusi, Amedume was managing a registered and licensed private security company in Accra but decided to establish his own company called the Support Security Company Limited. He said Amedume then used the official address of the registered company to apply for registration to enable him to start operations. Certificate of incorporation Supt Mawusi said on January 15, 2013, Amedume obtained a certificate of incorporation for Support Security Company Limited and on January 17, 2013, he obtained a certificate to commence business. He indicated that Amedume did not have a licence from the Minister of the Interior to operate a private security organisation as required under the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Law. Amedume was said to have signed contracts with various organisations and started providing security services for three companies before he was arrested by the police. Upon interrogation, Amedume informed the police that he was aware that he had to obtain a licence from the Minister of the Interior before commencing business. Operating since 2013 He also told investigators that he started operating the Support Security Company Limited without a licence since 2013. Superintendent Mawusi said clients entrusted their lives and property to the care of private security organisations for protection so those companies must not use deception to operate. He advised companies which required licences, permits and other authorisations for their operations in the country to obtain those authorisations in order to operate legally. He warned that the police would deal drastically with anybody who flouted the laws governing the establishment of companies.
