NPP Activists Caution Party Leaders

A group calling itself Concerned NPP Activists has served notice that if the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) fails to rein in elders who are trying to muddy the waters, they will also join the chorus. Speaking at a well-attended press conference in Techiman, the leader of the group, Isaac Kwain, said even though nomination of the flagbearership race of the party had not opened, it seemed some elders of the party had taken sides and were out there issuing statements which do not go down well with those at the grassroots. He said instead of such persons who are supposed to know better to rather rein in the youth and advice them to be cautious when speaking on party matters, they are rather the offenders. According to Mr. Kwain, the NPP as it stands needs total unity in order to boot out the corrupt and incompetent National Democratic Congress (NDC) government from power, but sadly this would not happen if elders of the party continue to wash their dirty linen in public. In an interview with a member of the newly formed group, Elizabeth Ama Nketiah, she said when it is time to campaign, it is the able bodied youth who traverse the land to woo voters for the party, but the elders sit in Accra and other big cities and make ugly noises. According to Ms Nketiah, the future belongs to the youth in the party and so they would not sit unconcerned for the elders to destroy the party because of their parochial interests. Ms Nketiah said whether Nana Akufo-Addo or Alan Kyerematen is elected as the flagbearer, they would campaign for the NPP because the party is supreme. According to her, everywhere you go, especially in the small towns, people are crying for the NPP to come to power to salvage the economy and bring smiles on the faces of Ghanaians and so nothing should be left to chance. Meanwhile, the Concerned NPP activists have hinted that starting from June the group would begin a house-to-house campaign to draw the attention of voters to the sorry shattered state of the economy in order to prepare the minds of people even before 2016.
