The Convention People�s Party (CPP) will emerge a stronger party before the 2016 general election. This is because the party is keen on completing all the necessary requirements for the Nkrumaist tradition merger to take place, especially between the party and the People�s National Convention (PNC). The political Committee Chairman of the party, Mr Ekow Duncan, said that in an interview in Accra at the weekend. Mr Duncan said the CPP was still open for talks with any party that wished to join it for purposes of building a strong front towards future elections. Mr Duncan stated that Dr Nduom�s exit from the party might have triggered a perception about the CPP not being united. Dr Nduom resigned from the CPP and formed his own political party, the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), to contest the 2012 elections. His resignation was reported to have been triggered by internal differences and clashes within the CPP leadership. He, however, disclosed that the internal structures of the party were still very strong and could not have been affected by the exit of Dr Nduom. Commenting on the usage of the Heritage Fund, Mr Duncan kicked against the usage of the fund to cushion the economy, stating that, �the NDC has not shown the requisite fidelity with public funds�. He cautioned the government against the unnecessary spending of public funds. Although Mr Duncan would not reveal details of the merger talks with the People�s National Congress (PNC), he expressed the confidence that the current structures in place would facilitate the vision of merging the two parties. He said the CPP was keen on completing all the necessary requirements for the merger to take place and gave the assurance that the CPP would be a stronger party before the 2016 general election.
