A 31-Year-old Ghanaian has been jailed, after police discovered two kilograms of heroin during a raid at an address in Croydon in London.
Kwame Gyanfi, whose date of birth was given as August 30, 1982 of Waddon Road, Croydon was sentenced to seven and a half years imprisonment over two weeks ago at Corydon Crown Court, after pleading, guilty to possession with intent to supply class A drugs.
His imprisonment came shortly after the arrest of two other Ghanaians; David Kojo Anim and Kofi Antwi Nkansah at Heathrow Airport in London for narcotic drug traffics and money laundering. The two were arrested on April 26 and April 27, 2014, respectively.
In Kwame Gyanfi�s case, officers from Croydon�s Crime Squad on August 9, 2013, executed a drugs search warrant at the address in Waddon Road, after they had received information that drugs were being handled at the premises.
The occupier � who was later identified as Gyanfi � was detained as he was entering the address, just as officers arrived to execute the search warrant. When the officers stopped him, they discovered that he was in possession of a black holder bag, containing approximately one kilogram of heroin.
Officers, then entered the property, where they discovered a further kilogram of heroin, approximately 250 grams of crack cocaine, as well as other items and drugs paraphernalia, including 27.5kg of cutting agents. After consulting independent experts, the streets value of the drugs seized was estimated at approximately 150,000 euro.
Gyanfi, was arrested at the scene and was charged the following day with possession with intent to supply class A drugs.
He pleaded guilt to the offence at Croydon Crown Court on February 18, and was sentence as above.
Detective Constable Kieran Given, from Croydon CID, who carried out the investigation said:
�Gyanfi arrest and conviction was as a result of a well planned operation and he was literally caught red-handed as we arrested him carrying a hold-all with a kilo of heroin inside.
�Drug dealers cause serious harm to our communities and we will carry on targeting those involved in the supply of drugs in Croydon. This investigation came about from information we received from the local community and it shows that we can achieve real success in ridding neighborhoods of drugs by working together.�
Meanwhile, Nana Akufo-Addo has denied any link to David Kwadwo Anim, owner of Le Baron Hotel.
According to a statement from his office signed by Eugene Arhin, a Press Secretary, the alleged drug baron was neither a friend nor major financier of Nana Akufo-Addo, who went to the extent of donating US$2 million to the campaign of the 2012 Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
�For the avoidance of doubt, these statements by the Republic are nothing but lies and deliberate fabrications designed in a desperate attempt to tarnish, once again, the image of Nana Akufo-Addo. Mr. David Anim is not a friend of Nana Akudo-Addo.
Indeed, Nana Akufo-Addo does not recollect ever having met him. The alleged donation of US$2 million to the campaign of Nana Akufo-Addo, as reported by the paper, is also a big lie.�
