Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, Alhaji Collins Dauda has ordered the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to change the water distribution networks that link to the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital to solve the acute water shortage at the hospital. Alhaji Dauda was speaking Thursday on Adom Fm�s midday News after touring the hospital. His comments come in the wake of an acute water shortage at three critical wards of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for the past two weeks, forcing patients and nurses to shuttle between the affected wards and the Maternity Ward to meet their needs. The hospital authorities are relying on private water suppliers to provide water for the Surgical, Orthopaedic and Accident wards. Although Alhaji Collins Dauda insists a report by the Daily Graphic newspaper that the hospital was facing challenges with water supply to some three wards at the hospital are overblown, he nevertheless directed the GWCL to change the hospital water distribution networks, which were established over ninety years ago, to allow proper flow of water to the hospital. Alhaji Dauda was optimistic that by December 2014, the ongoing water project at Kpone and Teshie will also be completed to reduce the water deficit facing the hospital and some residents in the capital. Meanwhile, the Ghana Water Company (GWCL) says it is not responsible for the water shortage that has hit some wards of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for the past two weeks. Speaking with Adom News, the General Manager of GWCL in Charge of Public Relations, Michael Agyeman said the company is responsible for supplying water to the Hospital on a daily basis but what happens within the hospital is not their responsibility. According to him, the arrangement with the hospital is such that distribution and repair works of broken pipes to various wards are handled by the technicians at the hospital after GWCL supplies the water.
