Players, Supporters Weep As Faisal Sinks Into Relegation

Some players and supporters of King Faisal wailed uncontrollably as the team on Wednesday got relegated after playing 1-1 with visiting Berekum Chelsea in the last round of matches of the First Capital Plus Premier League at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi. It was a sight to behold as the seemingly dejected players threw themselves unto the pitch and cried with the supporters showing solidarity to their team as they also joined in the mourning soon after referee William Agbovi brought proceedings to an end. Alhaji Karim Grunzah, President and Bankroller of Faisal, who at a point could not come to terms with the unfortunate development, descended the VIP stands and joined the technical team to issue out instructions to the demoralized players. Faisal, who joined the elite league from Division One barely two years ago, joins Dwarfs and Amidaus in relegation. Faisal, coming into the match on 37 points, needed a win at all cost to clear the relegation hurdle, but they met their match in Chelsea, who also needed at least a draw to improve their standings on the log as they were on 39 points. The stage was therefore set for an uncompromising encounter, but it was the visitors who had the last laugh as the drawn encounter saw them remaining in the league. Skipper Tetteh Nortey drew first blood for the homers on sixth minute, blasting home a thunderbolt from a goalmouth scramble, after Chelseas goalie Mike Sai, punched into play a corner-kick effected by Faisal. Chelsea restored parity in the 48th minute courtesy Yaw Alexander, whose seemingly harmless shot beat Faisals goalkeeper, Iddrisu Ibrahim. Alhassan Mohammed should have increased the goal tally for the homers, but he was constantly a waste upfront, missing many glorious opportunities in the course of the match.
