A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced an employee of the MGI Micro Finance Company to 18 months imprisonment in hard labour over the theft of computers and accessories costing more than GH�43,000.00, the property of his employers.
Eric Adu-Gyamfi was convicted after he pleaded guilty to the crime. He, however, disputed the number of computers he was accused of stealing.
Police Inspector Daniel Opoku told the court presided over by Mrs Afia Adu-Amankwaah that the convict had been engaged by the company as a cleaner at its Kumasi Ridge branch office.
On May 27, Mr Isaac Opare, the Procurement Officer, decided to take stock of computers, which had been bought for distribution to the various branches, and that was when the theft was detected.
A number of HP and Dell laptop computers, scanners and other accessories were found missing.
The prosecution said the convict was captured by a closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage packing the stolen items in a cleaning bucket.
A formal report was made to the police and Adu-Gyamfi was arrested.
Two of the computers were recovered from his room in the course of police investigation.
