A foundation has been launched to train street children, the poor, the needy, as well as orphans, in technical/vocational skills. Sharelove Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), will equip beneficiaries with skills in Kente weaving, hairdressing, Information and Communications Technology (ICT), among other skills.
Additionally, those who will require secondary and tertiary education will be enrolled in schools of their choice.
Vision to help the needy
Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Founder of Sharelove Foundation, Ms Bernice Ocloo, said it was established to reach the underprivileged in society.
She said the foundation was established to contribute its quota towards reducing the member of street children in the country.
�My dream is to try as much as possible to meet the needs and demands of the less privileged in society by making provisions for them,� Ms Ocloo stated.
She called on corporate Ghana and philanthropists to support the foundation with the little they could offer.
�I have constructed an ultra-modern institution to house the targeted people and also have farms to supply farm produce to other homes, prisons, psychiatric hospitals and schools for the disabled,� she disclosed.
�There is the need for children to be taught a sense of belongingness as citizens to grow as responsible people. This is what the foundation does for street children,� she added.
Ms Ocloo advised the children to equip themselves with enough knowledge to be able to face the challenges of the 21st century.
Essence of education
The Executive Director of the Human Right Activist Centre, Mr Robert Akoto Amoafo, said education was a daily requirement in society.
According to him, many children usually dropped out of school due to economic hardship, and poor parental guidance, among other things.
