Some landlords of Adjei Kojo whose houses were demolished by the Tema Development Corporation are being offered a compensation of 2000 cedis per household by National Security to relocate from the land. Following a Joy News report earlier this month that some affected persons continue to live appalling conditions within the debris, the residents say the National Security operatives who supervised the demolishing have returned to offer them money to go rent houses. More than five months after the demolition, about a dozen families continue to live in the rubble of their demolished homes in tents and makeshift wooden structures. Vice President of the Sraha East Landlords Association, Emmanuel Gakpetor tells Joy news� Joseph Opoku Gakpo the security operatives led by one Major Awuni have been visiting the place to encourage the displaced persons to leave the land. �They came with an amount of 2000 cedis, and five kilos bag of rice, they say they are offering money for us to go rent rooms. The leader of the delegation is Major Awuni, who we all know is a National Security operative,� he said. Some of them have accepted the money and left the area. But for others, although they find living in tents and makeshift wooden structures on the land uncomfortable, the residents say they won�t allow themselves to be tricked to leave the land. �Does it make sense that somebody would be in his house, you come and demolish the place, and offer him money to go and rent. Rent what?� he quizzed. They are questioning why it is not the Tema Development Corporation which demolished their homes that is offering them the money, but the National Security. �If TDC has come to demolish a place, how come you the National Security staff have come to offer money? So is the National Security in charge of the demolition? We want to know the source of the money,� Emmanuel Gakpetor demanded. The residents want the presidency to investigate the interest of these National Security operatives in possessing the land.
