Ivorian Arrested For Fraud

A 32-year-old Ivorian National who claims to be a footballer has been arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command for defrauding a Ghanaian of GH70,000. The suspect, Mamadu Dansenko, according to the police, was looking for somebody who could be his manager to sponsor him to play for a team in Qatar. According to Mamadu, the proceeds would be shared accordingly between him and the manager. But after collecting various sums of money, as FIFA processing fee, from the victim, he went into hiding. He is, however, currently in police custody assisting in investigations. Narrating the story to DAILY GUIDE, Chief Superintendent Paul Kontomah, the Accra Regional Crime Officer, said the complainant in the case is one Abu Sumaila, a trader at Sukura, a suburb of Accra. In the month of November 2013, the suspect approached the victim and introduced himself as a footballer who was looking for a manager to support him play in a football team in Qatar. Mamadu went on to mention one Sheik Mamoud Al-Thani as the owner of the football team based in Qatar. He gave two telephone numbers local and foreign as the contact numbers of the Qatar football team owner to the complainant to call and verify. Later Mamadu took the complainant to the La Beach Hotel and introduced him to one Arabian as the said Sheik Mamoud Al-Thani, owner of the Qatar football team. Sheik Mamoud told the complainant that before the suspect could be assigned to play in Qatar, he must secure a FIFA card. Based upon the false information, the complainant paid various sums of money amounting to GH70,000 to the suspect to be given to the football team owner. After collecting the money, the suspect went into hiding and was never seen. The suspect was later arrested when he resurfaced to collect additional money from the complainant and handed over to the police. Mamadu admitted in his caution statement that he collected various sums of money from the complainant but added that he gave all the money to the said Sheik Mamoud. Mamadu also failed to lead police to apprehend the said Sheik. He would be sent to court soon.
